Allie Corripio and Ben Coubrough started ploughing up Big Jack at 11:15am.
Robert Ormsby remains the the race leader and was almost at the top of Big Jack at about a quarter of an hour to midday.
Brent Ford has a quick update from Rocky Hall.
He tells us that Robert Ormsby has now taken the lead with Allie Corripio in second about 20 minutes back. Robert ran the 100 miler at Tarawera this year. Robert clocked a time of 17:56, placing sixth in the men’s field.
Benn Coubrough and Nick Bamford are in third and fourth respectively.
Of these four speedsters, Scottish-born Nick is the only C2K veteran; in 2022, he finished as the second male with a time of 29:17.
Mark Avery getting crewed at the 30km mark.
Watch how he keeps moving well despite the emerging heat.
Two women are leading the race in Allie Corripio and Chantelle Smith.
Both have strong pedigrees. Allie was the second female at this year’s Buffalo Stampede Bright Ultra 100km. Chantelle ranked no. 2 lady at the fabled Tarawera 100 mile held across the ditch.
Rob interviews Rebecca Barrow, the Towamba Public School Principal.
For this welcoming school community, Coast to Kosci is second only to one thing: Christmas!
Ben Bailey and Jenny White through Towamba.
Ben is a C2K veteran, having finished the race last year.
Jenny is on debut. She’s no stranger to gnarly distances though — she clocked 217km wearing the green and gold at the IAU 24hr Asia & Oceania champs held in Canberra this year.
Rob giving an update just outside Towamba — the first check point — including an interesting observation on Mark Avery and Matt Pilley running together in tandem.
Last year both Mark and Matt were on the podium. Mark placed 2nd male with a time of 28:53. Matt was less than half an hour behind with his time of 29:22.
Rob outlines the strategies on display.
Rob gives an update at the 10km mark of the race, and an insight into what strategy runners might adopt as they head to Towamba.
