It’s taken me a few days to get around to post this and probably going to take a few weeks to build up the courage to listen back to it myself.But here it is. I finally had the privilege of having a chat with robmasonrunsIf you want to hear the story of my running over the last few years have a listen.Very much focused on the last 3yrs of Coast to Kosci. From crewing jasonrichard__runs 2022 to the extremes of an inclement weather finish 2023 and finally the absolute joyful experience of Coast to Kosci 2024!
And everyone and everything in between.Just wanted to say massive thank you to all those who have been part of this journey and I look forward to reinforcing those connections and the many more to come.
(And apologies to ultrarunnermargie , I think I was calling you Maggie. Nerves got me)I could have talked all day with Rob! So many other topics to cover on running, mindset, values, goals and life.My main take aways are:
- Allow yourself time and space to chase your goals
- It’s not about talent or grit, it’s simply turning up. Firstly for yourself. It’s amazing how turning up for yourself helps you turn up for everyone else in your life.
- Build a community. Reach out to people. (That’s also an offer to anyone 🙂)
- Be kind. To others and yourself.As always, I want to express my gratitude to my amazing family and friends, for having a roof over my head, food in my belly and the freedom and privilege to pursue these ridiculous adventures!#coasttokosci2024

New episode dropped!This episode is about pushing your limits with the power of mindset. So what type of person do you picture when you think of ultra marathon runner? Is it a humble, unassuming, Aussie country girl that hails from a Dairy farm in rural Victoria? Probably not, and therein lies the beauty of Lauren Theordore. A woman who’s achievements and commitments to doing really hard things stretch far beyond what many people think is humanly possible. She recently competed in the Cocodona 250, a gruelling 402 km ultra marathon set in the Arizona desert, USA, where athletes run through breathtaking scenery and elevations, day and night in an attempt to cross the finish line and see how far their bodies and minds can take them.Lauren shares with us how running outdoors helped her get through a particularly difficult and isolating period of her life, but she thinks of the sport as a gift. She tells us that since discovering this sport and spending more time outside, she has shed layers of herself that don’t serve her anymore, allowing her to live a more authentic life. We cover it all in this chat, including the specifics of ultramarathon running (which there are many! Like umm…how do you sleep and eat!?), the positives that come out of mental health challenges, committing to a career as a Podiatrist serving remote Indigenous communities across Australia, the potential of the human spirit and the importance and relevance of mindset in everything we do in life. I wasn't going to share this video because it felt very personal and vulnerable but this is Ultra Running. There are so many highs. I genuinely love this sport, always having the best time and so much fun in any race I do but god there's lows too and plenty of tears.Tears of relief, of happiness, of pain, of tiredness, tears the whole way up and down Mt Kosci and tears for no reason at all. At the end of the day it's a beautiful but brutal sport, you push your body and mind beyond any limits that should be or you thought were there. I went into this race with a massive case of imposter syndrome. Unsure why I had been chosen to take part in this super special race with all these incredible runners with much more impressive resumes. At the same time I also went into it knowing without any doubt at all that I could do it and there would be no chance I wasn't finishing.Naivety or stubbornness I'm not sure but it kept me going and that summit moment was proof I was right to have faith in myself and that I belonged there just as much as anyone else. Also shout-out to my amazing crew for handling overly emotional Ella so well ❤️#coasttokosci #coasttokosci24 #ultramarathon #ultrarunning #trailrunning #ultrarunner

What a weekend.It's been a week and I still can't wipe the smile off my face 😁As I think I shouted somewhere between the Snowy River crossing and the National Parks office the way up to Perisher in the sunshine and mountain views, "HOW GOOD IS THIS RACE?"Thank you to Greg and Mickey for inviting me to take part and believing I could finish.Thank you to all the incredible people: race officials and volunteers, runners and crews who seemed like one big family.Thank you to my crew (Xanthe, Adam, Mat and Rich) who redefined #bestcrewever and gave me everything I asked for, everything I needed but didn't ask for, and knew exactly the right thing to say at any given moment.The whole experience was one big highlight, but here are the best of the best moments:- sunrise at the startline on the water. Having the welcome and blessing of the people who've walked this route for 60,000 years
- Soaking up the wisdom of some incredible people who've done it a few times between them. (I followed your advice as best I could, Brick. Promise!)
- Every time the breeze picked up and made me smile on Big Jack Mountain Road
- The stunning section between Bibbenluke and Gunningrah which holds a lot of beautiful moments and laughter from past years crewing
- The glorious downhill stretch out of Gunningrah to the base of the windmill climb
- My ongoing bafflement at the absence of windmills. Took too long to realise we could see them for hours on the approach two years ago because the moon was up.
- Playing games of "frog or spider" in the dark
- Venus, and the moonlight, and the stars.
- Dalgety. Such a great checkpoint. Good laughs, even better soup, and the kindest volunteers.
- Running a 100 mile PB of 22:04. (May have been aided by the story Adam and I entertained ourselves with about the zombies who came out of the voodoo dolls houses of Beloka in the night and chased us there.)
- Llamas at sunrise
- Just laughing every so often because "how good is this?"
- Deer just before the summit. Or were they goats? Glad Mat and Rich couldn't tell either.
- The summit and the finish line feels 🥰
